about me

Koya
Peace beautiful folks. I’m Koya (kaw-yuh), mama of the tribe of suns. Tribe of Suns is a mama taking up space. With four suns and a husband we literally take up space wherever we go. I’m good with that. There will be no shrinking to make others more comfortable.
One of my goals with this blog is simply to honor the lived experiences of black women via their birth and motherhood stories. For me it's about sharing a version of black motherhood and black love that doesn't often get it's proper due. Love of family, community, birth work, home birth, birth stories, conversation, manifesting goals, and sisterhood. It’s all rooted in a desire to live more intentionally, giving care to those things which are fulFILLing and feel like FREEdom.
FREEdom feels like giving birth on my own terms and encouraging others to do the same. It's supporting women during some of their most vulnerable and sacred moments in their lives.
This is a haven where I can be my dope, black, millenial, homebirthing, homeschooling/unschooling, spiritual, birth working, entrepreneurial focused, community active, sometimes goofy, highly melanated , around the way nerd self. My focus is on sharing the honest birth and motherhood stories of black mothers and black birth workers. We need and deserve spaces that feed and nurture us as much as we nurture those around us. Get comfortable sis--the energy is grand here.
